High-fat diets are all the rage right now, but a study from the University at Buffalo is catching national attention for linking fatty foods to vision loss.

The UB study followed the diets of almost 1,300 people over 18 years.

Researchers found that those who regularly ate red and processed meats, butter and fried food were three times more likely to develop age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

According to the CDC, the eye disease can cause severe and permanent vision loss.

The study's lead author says that while there is no evidence that eating healthy foods would reduce the risk of AMD, people should try to slowly incorporate more fish and leafy vegetables into their diet.
