A six-year-old child is currently in stable condition following a shooting on Tuesday, according to the Syracuse Police Department.

Around 8 p.m., Syracuse officers arrived at 119 Fenton Street and found the child inside with a gunshot wound and was "incapacitated," the department said.

At the same moment, officers say they were "confronted" by the suspect, 31-year-old Migueil Russo, armed with a handgun. Russo was shot by officer Matthew Tynan after what they call an "armed confrontation."

The child was handed to the paramedics following and Tynan is on paid administrative leave. Anyone with information is asked to call (315) 442-5222.
