The push continues for more federal funding to prevent domestic violence.

Congressman John Katko has proposed legislation to bolster the Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act. Currently, $180 million is dedicated to domestic violence prevention services. Katko wants to bump it up to $252 million.

"[It's for] anybody who's identified as underserved right now. So here in Onondaga County, for example, we know that the refugee and immigrant community is often underserved, and to have the resources to best serve them, programs like this might allow us to see that happen," said Vera House Executive Director Randi Bregman.

The Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act is the only federal funding source under the Department of Health and Human Services that provides domestic violence prevention services.
