Utica's mayor is declaring victory in the mayoral race. However, not all of the votes are in yet.

More than 700 absentee votes were counted today. Incumbent Democrat Robert Palmieri has unofficially extended his lead, picking up another 413 votes. Current common councilor Joseph Marino picked up 182.

The Oneida County Board of elections still needs to count affidavits.

On election night, Palmieri did not declare victory. He had just a 237 vote lead over current common councilor, Joseph Marino.

Palmieri defeated Marino in the primary, but Marino still ran as an Independent in the general election.

If Palmieri wins, it will be his third term, which was not previously allowed until term limits were extended under his administration.

Joseph Marino posted a thank you to supporters on his Facebook page, saying he came up short.
