Fort Drum held its annual Wreath Laying Ceremony in honor of Veterans Day.

The event was marked by a 21 gun salute and a moment of silence. The weather is not ideal, but those gathered at Memorial Park were not deterred.

"It's uplifting to know our community, really the weather, and the hardy folks in the North Country are just a part of who we are,” said Fort Drum Commanding General Brian Mennes. “Kelly and I and all the soldiers here on Fort Drum are really appreciative to be a part of the community. It's really cool that it's today and maybe it's appropriate that it's snowing as we honor our veterans."

Military officials also plan to celebrate the holiday with a Veterans breakfast next week.
