Dave Mancuso holds his Liverpool football team and his son to a high standard.
Mancuso's son Brendan is the Warriors' starting quarterback, making this season mean so much more.
"It's awesome,” said head coach Dave Mancuso. “I get to see him every day, you know, we don't just talk about football. We talk about how his day was and how life is. And I love him."
Brendan has led the Warriors to the second seed in the Double-A playoffs. It started with a season opening win, and the Mancuso family is amped.
“It definitely puts a lot of pressure on my hands,” explained Brendan, a junior. “He always tells me I don’t start because I’m his son, it's because I deserve it."
In the fall, practice comes first, but family runs deeper than football. On the gridiron or at the dinner table, communication is key.
"That picture when I'm 60 years old, it's going to mean more to me then, because you get to reflect on those moments, and playing in the Carrier Dome and a big victory,” said Dave, thinking about a photographic taken after Brendan’s first start and win. “You know, I think I'll reflect on those things afterwards for the rest of my life."
"Probably my problems, because I know I can talk about football, my life, anything,” said Brendan. “Like having a connection with your coach definitely means a lot to me whether its football or any other sports"
Off the field, it's about quality time. On the field, it's business for the QB.
"Oh yeah, he definitely treats me harder, but I don't take it personal,” said Brendan. “I always know he's just trying to make sure I'm getting better."
