A proposal to ban flavored milk in New York City schools has Upstate farmers and lawmakers concerned.

DiNitto Farms in Marcy hosted Congressman Anthony Brindisi and Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon today. They all oppose a possible ban on flavored milk in New York City schools.

They say cutting out flavored milk could put a dent in the state's dairy industry, and withhold nutrients from kids who only drink flavored milk.

Some farmers say downstate politicians don't understand the proposal's risks.

"They don't understand our practices,” said DiNitto Farms owner Terri DiNitto. “There’s a lot of misinformation out there on the internet. So if I had to talk to my downstate politicians, I would ask them to connect with their upstate counterparts and visit a farm."

Brindisi sent a bipartisan letter signed by members of the New York Congressional Delegation to the City's Department of Education about the concerns. Buttenschon reached out to her colleagues in the City.
