The Onondaga County Democratic Elections Commissioner has been accused of double dipping.

County Comptroller Matthew Beadnell announced Monday morning that Dustin Czarny is alleged to have abused county time by working as an Uber/Lyft driver while on the clock.

Beadnell said Czarny picked up fares as an Uber and Lyft driver — about 94 hours over the course of a year and a half.

Beadnell is running for re-election, facing a challenge from Democrat Marty Masterpole, but he says this audit was not politically-motivated.

"This doesn't involve partisan politics,” Beadnell said. “This involves a county employee who's being paid by the county taxpayer local dollars, earning outside income during that time. Had this been Michelle Sardo, the Republican commissioner, we would have done the exact same thing."

Spectrum News has reached out to Czarny for comment, but has not heard back yet.
