It was a stormy start to the Great New York State Fair, but that didn't stop the fun.

74,027 people came through the turnstiles at the fairgrounds setting a new opening day record since the fair expanded to 13 days. An estimated 26,800 of those fairgoers packed Chevy Court to see headliner Bad Company.

Gates opened for the 174th edition of the fair at 7 a.m. Wednesday, and people came from far and wide, including Governor Andrew Cuomo, who announced the GreenFair initiative that plans to make the New York State Fair the greenest fair in the United States.

The 13-day event will feature plenty of food, music, rides, exhibits, and more. More than one million people are expected to visit the fairgrounds.
