A New York State Trooper is laid to rest, after dying of a 9/11-related illness.

Family and friends said their final goodbyes to trooper Jeffrey Cicora this morning. They were joined by members of law enforcement from across the country.

Trooper Cicora worked in law enforcement for more than two decades. He was at the World Trade Center back in 2001, helping with the search and recovery efforts.

Trooper Cicora retired in 2017 due to his illness.

His former supervisor described him as a man who always showed leadership and was always dedicated to service.

"I went back and looked at the first performance rating that I gave him as a new trooper,” said New York State Police Major Phillip Rougeux. “And I rated him as an excellent trooper, a station leader in all categories. So I saw something back then, and he continued that for his 24 years of service."

Trooper Cicora was buried with the two K-9 units he served with, at his request. He leaves behind his wife and teenage son.
