New lawsuits are being filed under the new Child Victims Act.

The law includes a one-year window for lawsuits, no matter when the alleged abuse happened. A New York law firm announced several new cases against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse this morning.

They've filed six cases so far, with close to two dozen more in the works.

The alleged abusers in the Syracuse Diocese are from Skaneateles, Syracuse, Rome, Utica and Johnson City. So far, the firm has filed 262 cases across the state.

"When somebody comes to us and they're sharing their story, it's sometimes the first time that they're realizing the impact that it had on their life. And it is something that happens in the past, but it stays with them their entire life," said Jeff Anderson and Associates Taylor Stippel.

The firm is only announcing cases against the Catholic Church right now, but they expect to announce suits against other organizations soon.
