Progress is underway on the $118 million project to renovate the Dome.

Construction workers spent Monday putting steel up on the roof of the Dome. They're starting with the corners and the outside edges of the roof, so you won't see changes to the bubble for another year.

“It’s exciting when we were the impact of the actual structure, there’s been a lot going on behind the scenes for about two years,” said Syracuse University Vice President Pete Sala. “We finally have the big players on hand. We’ve awarded the lighting and sound.”

You can see workers have started to put steel bars on the roof. That will make the foundation for a big crown. In the meantime oversized trucks, cranes, and huge equipment will be taking over the dome.

"What fans will see is different entry points into the building, maybe a different look. So that set of stairs that used to go down to the guard shack, no longer exists." said Syracuse University Vice President Pete Sala.

Those changes will take some getting used to come football season. But they're a sign that everything is on track.

"We're putting on a 50 year roof that can withstand the worst winter storm. It's a roof that stays up forever. That's great for everybody we're doing it right," said Sala.

The roof is expected to be ready for the first football game of September 2020.

On Tuesday, crews are expecting parts of a huge crane. That crane plays a big role in the construction. Trucks are expected to roll into Syracuse around 4 a.m. with a police escort.
