At the State Office Building in downtown Syracuse Thursday, nearly 30 people gathered hoping lawmakers would hear their message.

"The language of the bill is a lot more sustainable than other bills that are currently being considered," said Sunrise Coordinator Emberlin Leja.

They're pushing lawmakers to pass the Climate and Community Protection Act. It would enact mandates which would ensure that the state's economy is powered by 100-percent clean, renewable energy in the next 30 years.

The bill also sets guidelines for making these changes with equity across all sectors of the economy.

"Right now having green technologies, living a carbon neutral life is really a luxury which is only affordable if you have a lot of money," said Utica College Professor of Theater Rachel Wolf.

For many of the young people here, they see this bill as imperative.

"I know that we have limited time and we have to be grateful for the time that we have here and we have to use that time wisely and get something done about it," said Rapper Truth Speaker (The Voice of the Youth) Mahkai Bailey.

They're calling for its passing without any changes.
