Several states have recently passed laws severely restricting access to abortions, but what's the case in New York state?
Lawmakers actually addressed the issue early this year.
"They get confused, 'what's happening, what's happening?' And they might think that all of that is coming to New York state which is not true either because we just signed a new law in 2019," said YWCA Syracuse Executive Director Fanny Villarreal.
Eight states have passed laws that could challenge the constitutional rights determined by Roe v. Wade. Wednesday Alabama passed a law that bans nearly all abortions in the state. Friday, Missouri passed a bill to ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected.
"In New York state, the woman has the right to choose. It's all the woman's election," said Villarreal.
In January, the state passed the Reproductive Health Act. The essentially allows for abortions at all stages of pregnancy with the exception of the third trimester. Though if the termination of a third trimester pregnancy would save the life of the pregnant woman than she can get an abortion in the state.
"People are getting confused that this is coming down the pipe because the federal government is ruling because it's coming down the pipe," said Villarreal. "What the federal government is saying is that all the states can create their own rules and New York state already did it."
The YWCA works with woman who are considering an abortion. They say it's important woman have the resources to make an educated decision when considering their options.
