Governor Cuomo has called on the State Department of Financial Services to investigate reports of nurses being denied life insurance coverage if they carry Narcan or similar medications.

The New York Senate Democratic Conference advanced a bill Tuesday that would help protect people from those kinds of denials. Officials say many nurses carry naloxone without a patient-specific prescription to be ready for encounters with drug users and patients in need outside of a medical setting.

Any nurse who may have been denied insurance coverage is urged to contact the department of financial services' consumer complaint phone line at 800-342-3736. You can also visit DSF.NY.gov.
