There are a lot of different types of nursing jobs out there but all of them are honored on National Nurses Day.

The Crouse Hospital's NICU seems like the place where nurses never sleep. It's the Regional Perinatal Center for the Central New York region. There is a staff of about 200 people working around the clock. Each year, they treat roughly 1,000 critically ill and premature infants.

As the number of premature and multiple births increase, the NICU department is planning to expand. They hope to take over the entire ninth floor to provide a more comfortable environment for entire families and to increase their care.

"There's a lot of moving parts," said charge nurse Lisa Ells. "It looks quiet, but that's just because people know their job and they know it well. They do it well because they care. When you walk through those doors, you have to give 100 percent. You've got to be 100 percent 100 percent of the time because a baby's life depends on you getting it right all the time. Not only there's a technical aspect, but there's an emotional aspect. We're human beings just as well and we care deeply about our patients."

The campaign for the expansion is called "Crouse Little Fighters."

Nurses will be honored all week across the country.
