Legos and robots aren't a typical pairing, but students from Syracuse University in the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) worked with students from the Syracuse City School District to compete in a Lego Robotics competition on Saturday.
The challenges had a driving school theme. The young students have been honing their skills in preparation since October.
Organizers hope they've piqued interest in STEM fields.
"A lot of the students are going to be the students that we don't typically find excelling at robotics, and now here we have footage of students actually doing that," said CSTEP coordinator, Kevin Robinson. "You know a lot of the challenges I've put in front of them are pretty rigorous, as you can see they're programming in front of an audience they have a time crunch two minutes, sometimes one minute."
There were three winners.
Robinson graduates from SU this year but hopes someone will take over the program.
