It's President Donald Trump's latest idea on immigration.
"We can give them an unlimited supply and let's see if they're so happy, they say we have open arms," said Trump.
He's teetering with the idea to send migrants to sanctuary cities, a plan that's furthering the political strife on immigration policy.
"This is, again, his manufactured chaos that he's created the last two years on the border," said Congressman Bennie Thompson.
"If Democrats would step up and help the president fix the laws, this all could go away, we wouldn't be having this discussion, and that would be the best thing for the country," said White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.
Syracuse is labeled as a sanctuary city, and one program in the area welcomes the idea.
"My first reaction was, ‘Bring them on. We're delighted,’" said Interfaith Works President and CEO Beth Broadway.
Spectrum News spoke with Interfaith Works as they run a refugee resettlement program in Central New York.
"I think it would be great for our community to have people here,” said Broadway. “My expectation is that they won't just simply be dropped off, but rather they will have been in detention. Their backgrounds would have been checked. They're often families. We love families. Our school district loves to have children in our schools filling the seats in our schools.”
But the issue comes with the number.
"That's the place where we would have to figure all of that out as a community,” Broadway stated. “Depending on how many people came, sometimes our systems can absorb a couple of families. If there were to be hundreds of families, it would overwhelm our community because there aren't the resources for us to be able to do that.”
Despite whether or not a plan like this would happen, refugee assistance programs say it would take proper preparations to meet migrants' needs.
"We're a community that's losing people, so this could actually be very good for our community,” said Broadway. “If this were to happen, we would be prepared to work together. There's no question that all of our agencies are prepared to do this work to do exactly this work as well as to work together with one another.”
