Less than 72 hours after being involved in a horrible crash that took the life of a Syracuse man, basketball coach Jim Boeheim will be at the Dome as the Syracuse Orange take on Duke.

According to Syracuse University Athletics Director John Wildhack, Boeheim was to return to coaching on Friday and will take part in Saturday’s game.

"The Jimenez family has suffered a tremendous loss. Our community is shaken,” Wildhack said in a statement Friday afternoon. “The Boeheim family is heartbroken over what happened, as we all are. This is a very difficult time. I know that Coach Boeheim's players gain strength from him, just as he gains strength from his players. Our entire community gains strength from each other. With this in mind, and after thoughtful consideration, I have respectfully decided that Coach Boeheim will resume his coaching duties later today and will coach in tomorrow night's game against Duke. We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to the Jimenez family as they continue to mourn this tragic loss."

Boeheim is cooperating with investigators after a crash on I-690 Wednesday night killed 51-year-old Jorge Jimenez.

A car carrying Jimenez and three other people crashed on the interstate near the Thompson Road exit  All four occupants got out of the vehicle. Boeheim, in an oncoming vehicle, noticed the disabled car and tried avoiding the vehicle, which was in the middle of the road. As a result, Boeheim struck Jimenez, who was standing on the side of the road.

No criminal charges are expected to come out of the case.
