Community members gathered on Saturday to celebrate the end of an era in Syracuse. A retirement pary was held for former Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler who spent nearly three decades at the police department.

Fowler retired in November after most recently serving as chief for nine years. He says he plans to focus on building his own business and taking vacations.

"Thank you, thank you for working so hard for me over the years and for all the work that they've done," Fowler told former colleagues. "We have a great group of outstanding men and women that work for the Syracuse Police Department and I'll be forever indebted for them for the services that they provide for the city of Syracuse and also the support that they've shown me over the years."

Fowler was the second-longest serving police chief in the city.

Chief Kenton Buckner was sworn in by Mayor Walsh in December.
