The future of a container park known as Handshake City in downtown Utica is uncertain.
The city's Urban Renewal Agency Commissioner says the lease won't be renewed because there are other plans for the site. Brian Thomas says the City is working to get funding for a new parking lot there.
Thomas also says there would be space for a business, and the City is currently talking with a potential investor. He says a meeting is scheduled with the park's organizers and the Mayor next week to discuss options.
"We acknowledge the effort that they put into it, the sweat equity that was put into clearing the lot and improving the lot, the number of people they brought into a number of different events throughout last year, and we're certainly willing to work with them to see what other options there may be," said Thomas.
Those behind Handshake-City posted on Facebook that they plan to operate through the end of their lease in June.
