Warmer temperatures in the forecast could mean the potential for ice jams and flooding.

Governor Cuomo is urging communities to prepare for backups. The DOT tweeted this video of crews breaking up ice in Ithaca Saturday.

The DEC is allowing municipalities to do this without permits.

State agencies will be monitoring ice jams and potential ice jam formations. They are also deploying assets as needed to assist in preventing and mitigating damage.

"These pieces of equipment need to be loaded on a trailer they have to be moved in some cases hundreds of miles and that doesn't happen quickly,” said Cuomo. “So we need local governments to get ahead of it, planning, make a decision now if they are going to need assistance, personnel assistance, we're going to need to know sooner rather than later."

For equipment requests and other help, municipalities can contact the state's 24/7 NYS Watch Center at 518-292-2200.

Of course parts of the area are no stranger to flooding. Just last Thursday, Whitesboro saw flooding due to an ice jam.

It happened where the CSX railroad bridge crosses Sauquoit Creek. It's one of the areas Oneida County's emergency response team will be monitoring in the coming days.

The county is also staging equipment along flood prone areas.
