UTICA, N.Y. -- Part of Utica's Oriskany Street remains closed following a water main break.

Several crews responded around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The water had been shut off since 6:00 p.m. that evening.

The Mohawk Valley Water Authority workers were able to fix the break, but significant damage was done.

The Federal Building down the road and Utica Observer Dispatch took in water.

The water was about four and a half feet deep at some points at the Utica O-D, which affected their electrical system.

Employees worked remotely and were able to get a paper out on Tuesday.

Generators were up and running on Wednesday.

"We were able to put out a paper, and the Auditorium opened up its doors to us, Rick Redmond and Rob Esche. We distributed papers from the Utica AUD last night," said Utica Observer Dispatch Comptroller Theresa Swider.

Officials believe was it was caused by a combination of factors, including the cold weather, old infrastructure and due to the fact there's ongoing contruction happening nearby.

A million and a half to two-million gallons of water are estimated to have come out.
