Republican Congressman John Katko and Democratic Congressman Anthony Bridisi are calling for a bipartisan compromise to end the shutdown.

They're also taking action to pay TSA workers.

"This is something that has gone on for too long and want to make sure we are taking action in the meantime to pay these front line workers," said Brindisi.

The lawmakers introduced a bill Tuesday which would pay workers until the government is back up and running.

They say the continuation of the shutdown, could cause more flight delays and put national security at risk.

"They're trying to feed their kids and these aren’t the highest paying jobs in the world. So if you miss a couple paychecks in that category it’s a real burden. Think about what they're trying to do, they're detecting bombs, knives, that people may be trying to bring in to do us harm, so for God’s sake if we can’t take care of them what are we doing," said. Katko.

The bill will allow the Administrator of the TSA to use security fee revenue to pay the salary of the transportation security officers during any lapse.

Both say they even met with the President about it last week. They say they recognized the urgency after speaking to workers who live paycheck to paycheck.

"We've heard many different stories from TSA workers, air traffic controllers, all types of federal employees that are going without pay right now and it's very problematic,” said Brindisi. “These people have car payments, they have loans to repay, and they have to put food on the table for their husbands, their wives and their children."

"They are not calling out in droves, you don’t see lines out the door, they don’t get paid a lot to start with...So do me a favor, if you see a TSA guy, thank them," said Katko.

There are currently about 100 TSA workers at Syracuse's Hancock International Airport.
