A 14-year-old girl is in critical condition after a shooting on Syracuse's south side.

It happened at 921 Ballantyne Road right at 1:32 p.m. Tuesday. Upon Syracuse police’s arrival, they found the victim, who had been shot in the upper body.

The girl was rushed to Upstate University hospital.

Police say crimes like these can't continue to happen in our neighborhoods. 

"It's disturbing to our community and our police department that the victims of these gunshot violence or injuries appear to be very young and getting younger, whether it is victims or suspects,” said Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and there is no suspect information available at this time.
