People across the region are bracing for what's expected to be the first major winter storm of the year.

Ahead of the storm's arrival, community leaders are already warning those who don't have to travel to stay home.

Endicott

  • Police officers will be strictly enforcing the winter parking rules.

Village of Herkimer

  • Snow emergency declared from Saturday at 8 p.m. until Monday at 12 p.m.

Town of Dolgeville

  • Snow emergency declared from 6 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Monday.

City of Utica

  • Snow emergency in effect Saturday at 6 p.m. until further notice
  • Vehicles on city roads past 6 p.m. Saturday are subject to ticketing and towing at the owner's expense.

Madison County

  • Travel advisory in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday.

Oneida County

  • Travel advisory in effect until 12 p.m. Sunday

Village of Waverly

  • Snow emergency declared as of 3 p.m. Saturday
  • All parked vehicles need to be off the public roadway by 6 p.m. Saturday, or risk being towed

Oswego County

  • Travel advisory through Sunday at 6 p.m.

Cayuga County 

  • Travel advisoryeffective Saturday 6 p.m. through Sunday at 12 p.m.
  • No unnecessary travel

Village of Frankfort

  • Snow Emergency in effect Saturday, January 19
  • All cars must be off village streets by 8 p.m. 

Otsego County

  • No Unnecessary Travel Advisory in effect 
  • Saturday, January 19 at 6 p.m. through January 20 at 6 p.m. 
  • Travel is not restricted

Syracuse 

  • Observe all parking requirements to allow snowplows to clear roads
  • Remove snow from sidewalks and hydrants
  • Report problem areas on CityLine
  • There is a water main break on Harrison Street near Syracuse University.

Cortand County

  • Travel Advisory in effect
  • Saturday, January 19 at 4 p.m. through Sunday, January 20 at 4 p.m.
  • Travel is not restricted
