UTICA, N.Y. -- An update on two dogs allegedly thrown from a vehicle on I-81 in Broome County last month.

The beagles are being cared for and are doing well.

One of the dogs, named 'Trooper', had fractures, lung contusions and broken ribs. The other dog 'Adam' appeared to be okay.

Adam was in Utica on Wednesday, as the Broome County Humane Society was one of 18 animal welfare organizations honored.

The Staffworks Charitable Fund and The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties donated thousands of dollars to different groups.

It was part of the 2018 Save a Life Campaign.

The Humane Society's Executive Director said "Trooper" had to have a leg amputated, and the other leg was broken so he's been in a splint.

She also said Trooper got neutered Wednesday, and that it seems like he's doing well overall.

"He's doing well in his foster home who does have another dog. He gets along great with that dog, and he's a very happy likable dog. He loves people, attention from people. So I think that they're gonna make great pets for someone," said Broome County Humane Society Executive Director Karen Matson.

Adoption applications are being accepted for Trooper and Adam, but the hope is they are adopted out to the same home.

The Executive Director said she has not been made aware of any arrests in the case yet.
