TSA workers refusing to go to work during the shutdown could impact travel plans.

Representatives from AAA say travelers should treat the shutdown like a holiday weekend. With smaller staffing at airports, arrive two hours before your scheduled flight.

They also recommend following TSA guidelines when packing liquids, electronics, and clothing to prevent longer waits. With a winter storm expected this weekend, check in with your airline for weather delays.

"Fortunately it is a slow month,” said AAA consultant Chuck Nave. “And actually the wait times are a little less; they're averaging less than fifteen minutes in the standard line. And in the pre-check line they are under ten minutes."

The TSA estimates more than two million people are screened every day at airports across the country.
