A standoff that took place in the village of Ilion came to an end after 3 1/2 hours Tuesday.

Police say 27-year-old Karl Rice fired a gun through a door inside the apartment complex at 120 West Clark Street. He had been arguing with another tenant at the time.

Police were able to get the upstairs occupants out of the building safely, but had to negotiate with Rice to get him to come out, along with his girlfriend and a third person.

Rice finally surrendered around 5:45 p.m. and was taken into custody. Rice was charged with attempted assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in Ilion court and jailed on $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond.
