Watertown's Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign is falling short this year.

The first goal was to raise $80,000. Then it was reduced to $60,000 — that's what was made last year. But, they're still $10,000-15,000 short, with Christmas coming up quickly.

Donations are used toward daily Salvation Army programs like the emergency food pantry, the soup kitchen and the summer program for children.

There are a number of reasons they think donations are short this year, including the fact that people don't carry much cash anymore.

“That's a trend in our society. Also now, people are also giving on their smartphones and we are still not to that point. We will eventually be there,” said Major Karen Smullen.

Red Kettle donations end on Christmas Eve.
