Veterans and fallen soldiers were honored in a unified wreath laying Saturday.

Arlington National Cemetery leads the ceremonies held at more than 1,400 different locations.

St. Peter and John’s Episcopal Church in Auburn was just one of the many places participating.

There, people laid 34 wreaths, each representing a fallen soldier, family member, or friend.

"We're united with all the other veterans to honor those that paid the ultimate sacrifice: their lives,” said veteran Jerry Fulmer. “It's a good way to pay tribute to them."

The wreath tradition began in 1992.

This year, more than 250,000 wreaths were sponsored nationwide.
