A new upgrade is expected to cut the wait time at the airport in Watertown.

A $500,000 state grant paved the way for a new luggage carousel. The system will run between secure and public areas of the airport, with enough space for larger bags.

Workers say the new carousel could save about half an hour of wait time for passengers, particularly those from Fort Drum.

"One of the issues that came to the forefront is that a lot of times when our soldiers are traveling they have big bags and that was causing a huge delay, once they're unloading,” said State Senator Patty Ritchie. “So this will help."

Construction on the new baggage claim will begin next year.
