Plans for a new Carrier Dome roof are moving forward.

The Syracuse Planning Commission approved Syracuse University’s plan to replace the 37-year-old roof.

SU officials presented their ideas last night.  The new roof is part of SU’s $118 million project to renovate the home of the Orange.

The intent is to bring the stadium up to today's standards. That means the Dome will finally have a permanent roof.

SU released more pictures of the cable truss structure. Leaders talked about their excitement in being able to move forward.

"We're so grateful to be able to work with the city of Syracuse and the county to move this project forward and you know this project just benefits the entire city, the university,” said Vice President & Chief Facilities Officer Pete Sala. “This whole community benefits from this project"

The Dome upgrades and changes are expected to be done in 2022.
