Each week during 'Friday Night Matchup,' Spectrum News will celebrate some of the top student-athletes that Central New York has to offer. Catherine Barr from Fayetteville-Manlius has been awarded this week’s Scholar Athlete of the Week.

Catherine Barr is a three-year starting goalie for the Fayetteville-Manlius varsity field hockey team. This season she was selected as a team captain. She was selected second-team all-league as a junior and won the Whitesboro Tournament MVP award last year.

Catherine has also been an integral part of the growth of unified sports at F-M, as she's participated as a student partner in basketball and bowling. Additionally, Catherine has been part of the St. Anne’s youth group grades 9-12; Mission trips grades 9-12; Link Crew 11th and 12th grade; and the Positivity Project her senior year. All of this comes as she excels in the classroom, as she holds a 95.8 GPA.

Catherine is a model student-athlete, a tremendous communicator and caring individual who goes above and beyond to help others at F-M. In the future, she hopes to study broadcast journalism, education or public relations.

Barr will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
