Police in Leroy are investigating a case of animal cruelty after a cat was found abandoned and left for dead.  The animal was found on Munson Street trapped inside a plastic bin.  The bin was closed tight with duct tape.  There were no holes in the bin for air to pass through.  A passerby saw the cat and flagged down a Leroy police officer who rescued the cat from the bin.  The cat survived and is now being cared for at the Genesee County Animal Hospital.  It is estimated to be about two to three years old.  It is a male, long haired cat.  The shelter named him Munson because he was found on Munson Street.  Genesee County Sheriff's Office Dog Control Officer, Ann Marie Brade, says, "It makes me very angry that people do things such as this because the cat obviously cannot defend itself and it was put in there to suffocate and die."  The shelter is receiving many calls from people interested in adopting Munson but at this time he is not being released for adoption.  Police are looking for the owner and the person responsible for this crime.  If that person is found he or she could be facing animal cruelty charges.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Leroy Police Department.
