Some help could be on the way for Ilion residents dealing with discolored water. The village has actually had problems with their water for years.
Mayor Brian Lamica says heat depletes the reservoir water of oxygen which allows minerals to infiltrate the water, causing the brownish color. But the mayor says a new aerator could be shipped as early as today.
It's designed to help oxygenate and clear the water. Once it's clear, the mayor hopes to take steps to flush out the system.
Ultimately, he says the infrastructure needs to be replaced, so the new equipment is not the final answer. But Lamica says the water is tested every day and is still safe to drink.
Assemblyman Brian Miller and Senator James Seward are trying to secure grants for infrastructure work.
A public hearing will be held next month.
