ROME, N.Y. -- It's been another busy summer so far at Fort Stanwix National Monument, but attendance is down from last year.

It's down about 9,000 people from 2017.

Park rangers at the Rome attraction believe the hot weather is one of the main reasons for the dip.

Plus, they drew a lot of people last year because it was the 100-year anniversary of the Park Service, and the Bicentennial of the Erie Canal.

However, they're still happy with this year's numbers.

"We've had an awesome amount of people through doing really fun things, giving us great feedback and excellent ideas for next year's programming, and it looks like it will continue that way until the end of the calendar year," said ranger Kelly Roman.

There are still plenty of events still to come at the Fort, including a movie night this Friday at 8:00 p.m.
