GEDDES, N.Y. -- If you're a true-blue fair-goer -- $200 gave you the opportunity of a lifetime. Now 200 devoted fans have admission to the New York State Fair for life.
In May, 200 lifetime passes were sold out in a matter of minutes. Now those buyers are using their passes as often as they want.
The coin includes the fairgoers' name engraved on the back.
Even those collecting tickets enjoy watching lifetime pass holders pass through the gates.
“It’s actually kind of exciting because growing up — I’ve lived in this area my whole life. If I had one, I would give it to my kids,” said Franny Santoferrara, a ticket collector.
“I think it’s tradition for us. My mother loves it, my aunts love it, and I’m passing it on to at least one of my children. I think it’s just a fun family feeling for us,” said Raphael Vaverchak, a lifetime pass holder.
The medallions allow free admission for only the pass holder for any day of the fair.
