The conversation dominating the Mohawk Valley continues to be the downtown Utica hospital.

That issue is taking center stage in the 119th Assembly district race.

Republican candidate Dennis Bova expressed support for the project to be built on Saint Luke's campus Thursday. He believes that's what the taxpayer wants.

Bova says taxes will skyrocket if the hospital is built downtown.

"Why are we going to take the taxpayers money to build new when we already have taken the taxpayers money and grant money to build these buildings?" said Bova.

Bova is running for Anthony Brindisi's vacated seat. He faces a primary challenge from fellow Republican Frederick Nichols.

The winner will face either Democrat Marianne Buttenschon or Democrat Christopher Salatino.
