MARCELLUS, N.Y. -- It was a time to reflect and remember as football players in Marcellus gathered to think about a friend who lost his life over the weekend.

Matthew Norris, 16, died on Sunday after crashing into a tree.

Much of the community joined a team prayer organized Tuesday night.

Norris played on both the football and wrestling teams.

Those who knew Matthew shared stories of his work ethic, quiet humor, and big heart.

His football coach says the team will miss him every day, on and off the field.

“He was definitely a funny kid, he didn't say much but when he said something it was usually pretty entertaining. And it put a big smile on our faces," said Jason Primrose, Marcellus JV football coach.

Marcellus' principal said the "M" on their field stands for Marcellus 364 days a year. Tuesday, it stood for Matthew.
