Members of the International Socialist Organization, Green Party and other individuals held up their signs protesting ICE outside the Federal Building Tuesday.

“We think ICE should be abolished and we're going to specifically demand that it be evicted from Syracuse today,” said Dana Cloud, International Socialist Organization Member.

The protest centered on the separation of families that occurred at the Southern Border.

"I'm a social worker, working with families and when I see families being torn apart, by ICE, Border Patrol or any of these things arbitrarily. I really don't like that," said Peter Swords.

Meanwhile, at a congressional hearing, ICE Executive Associate Director Matthew Albence had this to say: “With regard to the FRC's, I think the best way to describe them is like a summer camp. These individuals have access to 24/7 food and water. They have educational opportunities, they have recreational opportunities both structured as well as unstructured; there's basketball courts, there's exercise classes. There's soccer fields that we put in there. They have extensive medical, dental and mental health opportunities."

These protesters are also concerned about what's happening closer to home in Central New York. Cloud added, “We also don't want immigration agents to be in our bus station and train station. We also want Syracuse to live up to its promise of being a sanctuary city.”

The deadline for families to be reunited was last Thursday.

Peter Swords was one of the protesters arrested, charged with Trespass and taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center.
