Homeowners in upstate New York are starting to see the results of the hot and dry weather.

Grass in many areas is turning brown, but that grass is not dead — it's dormant.

This is normal in the summer, but many people try to keep that luscious green lawn.

So, experts have a few suggestions:

  • Stay off the grass as much as possible
  • If you decide to water, you have to do it consistently (about an inch of water a week)
  • If you do decide to cut your grass, trying lifting the height of the mower so it doesn't cut quite as deep
