A new grant will help replace lead pipes in Watertown homes.
A $600,000 grant will fund the replacement of corroded lead pipes on 150 homes over the course of two years.
Currently there are 4,900 homes in Watertown that were built before 1931.
Officials say those more than likely have water lines contaminated with lead.
In order to qualify you must meet several requirements.
You must live in a residential home built prior to 1931, only three families or fewer can live in the home, and you have to be up to date on your taxes.
Officials say this grant is important because it can reduce lead health concerns.
"When water passes over lead it's collected into water and gets into your drinking water,” said Water Superintendent Vicky Murphy. “So that can affect your children and pregnant women."
Registration for the program began Tuesday and more than 75 applications have been accepted already.
