Hospice of Jefferson County is now training spring Volunteers.

The volunteer program consists of a five day course, which amounts to 22-hours of training.

New this year is an online portion that allows volunteers who may not have the time to train in person -- to complete the course online.

Program officials say the volunteers make a big difference for patients.

"How do you work with people that are dying?” said Marketing Director at Jefferson County Hospice Nicole Paratore. “We talk about Make everyday matter, that's our slogan. But we live that everyday too. When our nurses go into patients’ homes, they talk about what matters today."

More than 50 volunteers participated, making up five percent of the staff.
