In light of recent school tragedies members of the Canastota Community gathered for a candlelight vigil.

A group of religious leaders prayed together outside the Canastota Central School Tuesday evening.

Each person took time calling upon God to help them through these troubled times.

They say that by coming together they can find a way to protect students from more harm.

"To help the community, let's face it two heads are better than one and awful lot of the time, right?” said Canastota Area Association of Churches President Pastor Dave Allen. “And a chord of many strains can't be broken. We come together in unity we have a solidarity in strength a strength in numbers."

Students across the country are planning on doing a walk-out in support of the students who died in Parkland on Wednesday.
