A group opposed to a $1 billion tax hike proposed by Governor Cuomo is urging residents to speak out against it.

The Reclaim New York Initiative announced a grassroots campaign called "Stop the Tax Bomb."

They said that under the proposed budget, taxes and fees will increase in order to pay for state projects and economic development programs.

The group believes these increases are causing many New Yorkers to flee the state.

"This is the moment as we look at the proposed budget from the governor and we're expecting budgets next week from the assembly and senate to reach out to your legislators and tell them that you're tired of your neighbors moving south,” said Reclaim New York Initiative Executive Director Brandon Muir. “We can't afford the cost as it is and this proposed budget increases that cost."

The group notes that Onondaga county had the largest population decrease of any New York county with a big city from 2015 to 2016.
