Some of the people who serve and protect in Syracuse were thanked for their hard work and given promotions.
Mayor Ben Walsh and Police Chief Frank Fowler announced it during a ceremony Friday.
Four police officers were moved up to sergeants and one sergeant became lieutenant.
The new sergeants will be managing and supervising patrol officers.
"They're going to fill some much needed roles within the police department and we're looking forward to watching them grow and watching their new influence over our police officers,” said Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler.
A few were detectives who will bring experience to their new positions.
