It was a special day for one Oswego County Army veteran.

In 2008, Army Specialist Ryan Wilcox was shot in the leg while being deployed in Iraq.

He later returned to active duty in 2012 and was deployed to Afghanistan.

Shortly after, nerve damage in that leg forced doctors to amputate it, which made living at home difficult.

Now the organization Homes For Our Troops is building Ryan and his family a home to fit their needs.

Community member joined the Wilcox family in celebrating the purchase of the land Saturday.

"I knew there would be a lot of support, but it's good to see everybody come out. I haven't seen some of these guys in years. It means a lot that they are still close enough to me and my family to take time out of their busy day and come support me and Home For Our Troops," said Wilcox.
