SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Construction at Syracuse's Hancock International Airport is now moving into the fourth month. The $48 million renovation is scheduled to be complete by October.

Executive Director Christina Callahan says she knows it’s a little bit of an inconvenience right now, but visitors will eventually like what they see at the airport.

Recently, a few of the tenants have been relocated so that the bulk of the work can begin in the center of the airport and in the front lobby.

Wednesday, the rental car counters were moved to the first floor of Terminal B and on Monday the barber shop will relocate to the second floor of Terminal A.

Airport guests will notice the canopy between the terminal building and the garage is in the process of being removed.

Eventually it will create more space in front of what was a tight and busy drop off area between the terminals.

For now the road in front of the airport remains closed so you're advised to give yourself time, be patient and follow the posted signs.

Over the next few months the bulk of the interior work will be done.

"Once we've relocated our tenants we will wall off, what is essentially the center portion of the terminal so that work can begin in that area and that's going to include a lot of demolition beginning to replace the terrazzo floor, and all of the interior work," said Callahan.

Once finished, the airport will feature a new facade, bathrooms and more natural lighting. A new pedestrian bridge connecting the parking garage to the terminal is also in the works.

Airport officials have been providing updates on social media and on their website.
