Winter weather can bring a lot of trouble. In places like Oswego, that trouble can also mean blocked or covered fire hydrants.

The Oswego Fire Department is having trouble getting to the hydrants, making their job even more dangerous.

Several feet of snow has already piled up. Firefighters will be going through the city in an effort to clear as many of them as possible. But because there are so many covered, they have to do it on a priority basis.

"There's over 600 hydrants in the city, and we have not been able to get to all of them yet," said Assistant Fire Chief John Chawgo. "We do it on a priority basis. The hospitals, the nursing homes and the schools are first, and then we work our way down from there."

The chief says, in some cases, his team is tasked with clearing as many as eight feet of snow away from the hydrants.
